BODHI KHAYA Spring Retreats

Warm Greetings,

Spring is
traditionally the time to cleanse body, mind and
spirit. Join us at Bodhi Khaya for one of our
scheduled retreats or, if you prefer, create a
retreat for yourself or a group. This spring we have
retreats on meditation, mindful cooking, movement
and yoga. Only two hours from Cape Town, we offer a
warm spiritual home for those on the path to
awakening.

Discover your purpose,
see your life as an unfolding story, and enter the
adventure of becoming fully alive. How we interpret
the narratives within our Life Story is crucial in
influencing our life affirming energy, creativity
and vitality, and countering the destructiveness and
self-sabotage that can happen along the way.

By opening up to
story, anecdote and metaphor we can become
liberated, begin to hear and tell our work and
personal lives in new and vital ways, discover the
‘hero within’, become our own therapist, embrace
transformation. Like the lotus flower, we bloom and
seed new beginnings. We reach into what may be murky
depths and produce something of infinite beauty and
worth.

This retreat is an
experiential and practical retreat that equips
participants with tools to act with greater
awareness, calmness, imagination and courage.

Graham Williams is an
author, thought leader for the Institute of
Management Consultants in South Africa, and a neuro-linguistic
practitioner (Institute of Behavioural Psychology in
Ireland). His formal disciplines are psychology,
economics and business strategy. He believes that
the power of story is universal, crossing all
boundaries. This belief developed over the years as
he worked with many companies in many sectors in
many countries.

Peter Fox is an
ordained Minister working in the field of Spiritual
Accompaniment to the Dying and Bereaved. As a member
of the Academic Board of South African College of
Applied Psychology, he has lectured in these related
disciplines. He is an author and has a private
practice as a therapist in Couples Counselling and
Grief and Loss. His training has been in Theology
and more recently in Psychoanalytic
Psychotherapy. His focus is to encourage insight,
growth and personal transformation in his capacity
as therapist and Mentor.

Since the Venus transit of the 5th June, many of us
have become aware of the huge shifts taking place
and how hard it is at times to keep on track. Having
been Divinely guided with information on how to
balance these energies, Shelley Adams presents a
workshop focusing on the astrological movement of
the moon. Related to the Feminine, i.e. cycles,
emotion, water and intuition, the energies of the
moon assist us in accessing these aspects within
ourselves.

We now come to the understanding that it is finally
safe to contact the power of our Sacred Feminine.
Our task is not to replace the Patriarchal system
with the Matriarchal but to bring the two into
balance. Here we look at how we make the shift from
the Wounded Feminine to the Powerful Feminine. As
the sun and the moon sit in opposite houses, the
readings begin with Libra, dealing with love and
relationships, both with ourselves and others, and
comes to completion in unveiling the Sacred Feminine
in Virgo.

Combining these energies with the Sacred Soul
Journey Wisdom cards in this workshop gives you the
tools necessary for deeper readings for yourselves
and others. The Sacred Soul Journey Wisdom cards is
a unique wisdom pack with divinely inspired messages
and original artworks by Shelley Adams. As an artist
of many years standing, Shelley has been made aware
over time as to the effect her work has on others.
Whether they find their own messages in the work or
whether the work creates shifts within them, the
results of their interaction with the art have
always been profound.

This retreat is
designed to gently and powerfully peel away the
outer layers that prevent you from experiencing and
living the awareness, simplicity, wisdom and love of
the Presence, your essence. It’s about opening up,
going beyond the mind and trusting yourself.

Without this shift in consciousness life is
challenging in the extreme but we are living in the
era where we have the potential to bring spirit to
earth in this lifetime. It is this consciousness
which will transform, change and heal our planet.

Are you willing to commit to yourself to:

  • go beyond
    restrictions, resistances and distractions?

  • allow life to be
    fun, a game?

  • take time for
    yourself?

  • fall in love with
    yourself?

  • integrate your
    divine with your human self?

You are already that
which you seek.

The food we eat and
the way we prepare it is an integral part of the way
we experience health and vitality. Often we believe
that our spiritual practice is separate to what we
are doing on a daily basis. This retreat explores
how we can infuse our everyday lives with a greater
sense of meaning through the ingredients we select,
the way in which meals are prepared and how we
conduct our lives at different times of the year.
Join Daniel as he demonstrates how to transform even
the most simple, natural ingredients into
mouth-watering vegetarian cuisine that bursts with
flavour and vitality. As a group we will participate
in discussions about nutrition as well as meditation
and Chi Kung practice to create a deeper connection
with ourselves and our surroundings.

Daniel Jardim was the resident cook at the Buddhist
Retreat Centre in Ixopo and compiled the recipes for
the extremely successful recipe book 'The Cake the
Buddha Ate.' He teaches a number of retreats and
workshops offering delightful and exciting
vegetarian fare with a strong emphasis on the
consciousness of the food and the eater.

“Daniel embodies both great wisdom and enormous love
in his offerings. Entrusting your wish for a
healthy, balanced and nutritious life to Daniel may
be the most joyful, rewarding and healing adventure
of your life”

- Gavin
Harrison, author of ‘In the Lap of the Buddha’

Connect more intimately with your direct experience
of your body and become present. Explore how your
body may want to move as an expression of your
immediate experience. Anchor yourself in the present
moment through periods of silent meditation. Out of
this stillness, find your own unique ways of giving
expression to your inner states through movement.

Stay present as you move into the world and relate
with others. Build the bridge between meditation and
your daily life. Experience the support of Presence
to live with deeper awareness. No experience of any
movement practice or meditation is needed in order
for you to benefit from this retreat.

Imagine ten days of immersion in the dance of
presence and intimacy, surrounded by beautiful
nature and the company of kindred souls. Imagine
giving yourself fully to the dance, sharing richly
and deeply with other dancers, and between dances -
dropping into the stillness of the moment with a cup
of tea on the porch, enjoying delicious meals, or
floating naked between the lilies. Ten days of bliss
awaits you. Come dance, beloveds!

Facilitators training

This event will give you an insider’s experience of
how I create BlissDance events and give you the
basic skills to facilitate BlissDance processes. The
facilitators training will introduce you to the
dynamics that makes the dance so blissful, and also
to the unique therapeutic modalities that are built
into it. Dances will be filmed and participants will
be given feedback on their own dances.

Shakti Malan

Shakti is a dakini or teacher of the mysteries of
Tantra. Shakti is based in Cape Town, South Africa
but teaches and practices across the world. Her
central approach is to enter the totality of
experience as a gateway to awakening. For more on
her work, see
www.shakti.co.za
  and

www.totalitytherapy.com

Shakti's purpose as dakini is to facilitate your
awakening to the essence of who you really are,
while remaining fully functional in your body. Many
traditions of enlightenment view the body as that
which is to be transcended. Tantra sees the body as
a vehicle for awakening. The process of dropping
through veils of illusion can be very impactful on
our nervous system, and every aspect of our physical
and energetic bodies.

This retreat will be intense practice in a peaceful
and holistic setting, overlooking fynbos and the
Atlantic Ocean. It includes asana practice,
pranayama and restorative sessions. This retreat
will start on Friday at 18h00 and finish after lunch
on Monday.

In our modern world of rapidly evolving
communication technologies such as cellphones,
internet, facebook, embodied experiences of
stillness and rest are difficult to attain. They are
like receding phantoms of the imagination. But it is
possible to unplug, still the body and mind, and
enjoy the sense of presence inside your own skin.

Yoga evolved as a response to the multiple
distractions of living. Iyengar yoga has refined
this tradition to a modern form that is accessible
to everyone. Participating in a retreat in a
suitable and nurturing environment can lead to a
wonderful sense of renewal, joy and at-oneness
inside your own skin and connection to community.

Brigitta Tummon will lead this yoga retreat; she is
a Senior Iyengar Teacher and has been teaching in
Europe and South Africa since 1979. “Yoga has been
part of my journey for many years and it is a way of
life. It is an on-going adventure of exploration of
mind, body and breath. Yoga is a meditation in
action and a beautiful way to connect us more with
our own inner self as well as with our fellow human
beings. I love to share this passion and it is a
privilege to be teaching this old tradition and to
see the deep joy and transformation that this
discipline brings.”

Finding Balance in the Midst of Change

This long-weekend retreat, facilitated by Sue
Cooper, draws on the wisdom of Buddhist psychology
and will be held in a nurturing and contained
atmosphere of Noble Silence. Through a combination
of meditation, therapeutic reflection and dialogue,
we will develop balance and stillness in the midst
of change and unpredictability within our lives. The
integration of body, heart and mind will be enhanced
by daily sessions of the ancient form of movement
meditation, Chi Kung, as well as silent walks in the
fynbos and forests, led by David Francisco.

Newcomers to this approach are very welcome, as well
as those who have attended Sue’s 9-week ‘Open the
Heart and Still the Mind’ courses and Morning
Retreats. Please join us in ending our year with
Awareness, through connecting with ourselves and
each other in silence, within the beautiful
surroundings of Bodhi Khaya Retreat.

Sue Cooper is a Clinical Psychologist with 20 years
of experience as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist,
working in private practice in Cape Town. She has a
long-standing interest in the interface between
psychological and spiritual approaches to
self-discovery and inner healing, and has attended
Buddhist meditation retreats for almost 30 years,
both in South Africa and the UK. Please contact Sue

in Ixopo where he lived for 8 years. He teaches
mostly Wudang Style Chi Kung based on the four

of Chi Kung has meditative, gentle movements and is
suitable for people of all ages.

This is the ideal opportunity to slow down, breathe
and connect with yourself and nature. Walk the
beautiful fynbos and forest trails, join our morning
meditation, or do nothing.  We offer guided walks,
meditation and Chi Kung sessions. Massage and
horse-riding sessions can be booked in advance.
Three meals per day are provided, or if you prefer,
you can opt for self-catering. Create a retreat that
suits your needs.
